Remember how cool we all thought that first Dremel was? We're reliving the feeling with this one: lighter, faster, smarter, better, and stronger. The main improvement over the last generation is the battery source: lithium-ion. There are so many reasons to applaud. Lithium holds its charge up to six times longer in storage than nickel-cadmium batteries, so it's ready when you are. Remember the disappointment when you were ready and your battery was low? That won't happen with this one. It's got a battery fuel gauge that tells you how much life is left before a recharge, so you won't be caught without your Dremel, and if you choose to keep it on its charger, you won't cause memory and shorten the charge capacity. It's small, it's light, it's comfortable and maneuverable; it's everything the corded models are, but without the cord. We love it.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste

"I like it better than the corded version" 2010-04-05

I don't have much to say about this lithium powered Dremel. Battery lasts a long time, its light weight, and it has plenty of power just like the corded version.

I like this better than the corded because there isn't a cord that gets in the way or causes you to not be very accurate.

The only down side is the case. It kind of looks like it was made as a generic case for multiple Dremel products but everything does fit securely.

 "Never let's me down" 2010-04-02

I've owned this set for a few years, and there are many times when this tool is the only one for the job. It's one of those things you should own if you do a lot of projects yourself. It's good for a thousand different things, has a lot of power, and holds a charge for a long time. Never disappointed when I have to reach for a Dremel.

 "very nice" 2010-04-01

My initial impression is very good, although we will see how it holds up with time. Lot of plastic in this thing. It does have some power.

I use my dremel rotary tool in many unique situations in building projects. This Dremel 8000 frees me up from plugging into the wall without losing the power I need on difficult jobs.

 "Verrrry handy tool." 2010-03-09

So far I've used this tool to sand catches for wooden mosquito screens and knobs for cupboards. I've also used it for the main purpose I bought it, which is to grind down my dogs overly long nails.

I have two large thirteen (13) year old dogs, who are no longer as active as they used to be, and due to this, their nails were getting really long and therefore affecting the way they walk. I tried clippers which hurt them, emery boards, and even sanding by hand which took forever, but never I have achieved the results that this Dremel tool did in minutes.

I was a bit worried at first that the high pitched buzzing sound would scare them, but strangely enough, they ignored it and were very calm after they realised I didn't have the clippers with me!

I used the coarse sand paper barrel attachment to do this.

Bear in mind however, you can't leave the tool too long on each nail, or it will heat up and cause the animal pain. You also get quite a lot of nail dust.

After it's initial charge, the battery has not lost power from the door knobs,to the catches, to all the nails of 2 dogs (including front dew claws). This is the first re-chargeable tool I've ever had that did not die mid-job. It still has all 3 lights displaying full charge.

I have no regrets whatsoever about buying this tool.
